Oomph Plastic Cards
What makes Oomph plastic cards different?
Plastic cards made by Oomph are high quality, 100% plastic – with no nasty cardboard, sticky-tape or desktop laminator involved. We only use the finest, brilliant white plastic stock sourced from Italy. This is the Oomph standard, so it has to be 100%. Choose between 'The Original Plastic Card' or the more sustainable 'Green Ecocard', whichever you choose you can be certain they’ll add plenty of Oomph to your marketing.
What size is a plastic card made by Oomph?
The same size as your bank card: 85.60 x 53.98mm (we round it to 86 x 54mm to make it easier). At 0.76mm, it’s the same thickness too and has the same 3.18mm rounded corners.
Do you offer any other sizes?
Yes. But this makes your order extra special, which means a quick chat with our bespoke project team. We can make any size or shape, just give a member of the team a call on 0845 644 8171
What finishes can I have?
You can choose our soft-to-the-touch silky matte or super high glossy finish (there’s no extra cost, it’s all part of the Oomph service).
What if I only want colour one side?
All our online pricing is for double sided printing. In fact, we recommend printing both sides to achieve maximum impact.
Are Oomph plastic cards bullet-proof?
Pretty much! It all depends on how your customers use (or abuse them). Oomph cards are tough as old boots: they’ll scrape a frosty windscreen and even go through the wash (but we wouldn’t advise it). In fact, they’ll last for years and if you opt for a matte finish, they’ll look better for longer too.
How much do Oomph plastic cards cost?
All our up-to-date pricing is shown below. We have 3 service levels, 15, 10 or 5 days, if you can wait there’s big savings to be made, if you can’t, we can still deliver up to 1000 units in 5 days – guaranteed.

Why is the 'Green Ecocard' only available on 15 days turnaround?
The material that makes our 'Green Ecocard' can only be run through a particular printing press. With demand for this nifty little card ever increasing, 15 days is our standard lead time at present – we hope to change this soon though so watch this space. Oomph started the sustainable card movement with the Ecocard project and is the only company in the UK to produce a hybrid recycled PVC card.

Your pricing only goes up to twenty-thousand units, what if I want more?
Please give us a call if you’d like a greater quantity or have a selection of artwork you’d like to include in your print run, that way we can talk about the most cost effective options open to you.
Why is 'The Green Ecocard' ever so slightly dearer than 'The Original Plastic Card'?
There are higher costs in re-processing plastic for plastic card printing. We’ve reduced the price considerably since we started selling the 'Ecocard' back in 2008. Today, it’s just a smidgen more than our standard plastic card – a fair price to pay to help the environment don’t you think?
Is 'The Green Ecocard' biodegradable?
No, but you can recycle it (or we can). Biodegradable PVC is brand new virgin plastic with an additive to make it degrade – it will only degrade in an industrial composting facility (pretty heavy duty) which makes biodegradable PVC really not worth the hype.
Will print quality suffer on 'The Green Ecocard'?
In a nutshell, no. Because the outer core is super smooth virgin plastic we gain the same perfect surface to print on as the original cards. The inner core is the recycled bit – it’s hidden away because it’s a tad lumpy and bumpy.
How long will it take to get my Oomph plastic cards?
It depends on the service time you’ve chosen. All lead times are for printing only. Transit times will depend on your location. Please note, all turnaround times are in working days (Mon-Fri, excluding public holidays) and are guaranteed. Orders on an express service – UK Mainland Only – will be sent on a pre-12pm delivery slot at no extra charge. If you’re at all concerned about transit time its best to call and check before you order with us.
Do you ship globally?
Oh yes. We can ship Oomph plastic cards wherever you want in the world, just get in touch for a shipping cost.

Absolutely, it’s best to call us so you can get the best price.
Am I able to track my order once shipped?
Yes. All Oomph orders are sent via a totally traceable courier. When they’re dispatched we’ll let you know via our new system, it’s pretty nifty.
What exactly do you guarantee?
In short everything (apart from the couriers who, like most of us, are at the mercy of traffic jams and transport systems). We created the Oomph Promise to guarantee everything about your Oomph cards, even our lead times. We also guarantee that we won’t run for the hills once we have your money. We never overlook what really matters – the basics – great service, ease of use, honest pricing, and respect for your time, money and trust.
Does it ever go wrong?
Of course it does, we’re human and can make mistakes (luckily they don’t happen very often). It’s how quick we clean up problems and our willingness to do this if you’re not happy that makes the difference. One of our best customers is so as a result of how, even when things go wrong Oomph is 100% willing and ready to help. We are the 100 per-centers, anything less is not acceptable in our book.
Oh dear these cards aren't what I expected at all. What can I do?
Call us. We’ll be devastated if you’re not delighted with your Oomph cards but dedicated to putting whatever’s wrong, right.
My cards have just arrived and they are damaged! What now?

Why do you want the cards back if they’re damaged or not what I expected?
We need to see what the problem is and fix it quickly so it doesn't happen again. We strive to ensure only perfect cards are despatched; when they’re not flawless we want to know why.
Who pays if I have to send the cards back to you?
We will cover the cost. Don't worry, a courier will be sent to collect them from you. Please get in touch so that we can schedule a pick-up.
Can I get a refund?
If you’re really unhappy with your cards then talk to us, we’re understanding. After all, if you’re not happy do you think we are?
You talk about CardMarque® what does it mean?
-
Glad you asked. We developed the CardMarque® seal of approval to raise standards within the industry and give us an internal benchmark. It’s part of our heritage and has moulded the company that is Oomph today.
All Oomph products are protected by CardMarque® and ensure excellence across five key areas to meet our exacting standards:
Quality: ensures the validation and integrity of our raw materials, production process and supply sources.
Manufacture: ensures only extensive, modern production facilities are used to guarantee professional product and service.
Delivery: ensures your order will arrive via traceable courier, at a time and location of your convenience.
Performance: ensures our team fully understands your business requirements, and delivers on your expectations.
Support: ensures that Oomph!’s outstanding reputation for customer service and after sales support is maintained and improved on. How do I know it’s not all talk?
Oomph offers a ‘Try Before You Buy’ scheme, so you can put us to the test and see for yourself that we really do walk the talk.
How does the 'Try Before You Buy' work?
We offer all our customers a free Oomph sample pack so that you can be inspired by our latest designs. If you want to see you own design immortalised in plastic, simply upload your own artwork and we’ll send you 12 double sided cards – absolutely free.
How long does it take to get my free Oomph sample pack?
Our standard sample pack will be despatched same day via Royal Mail 1st class post. Please note, 'Try Before You Buy' packs will take up to 2 weeks to arrive. It’ll be worth the wait though.
Try before I buy, where’s the catch?
Ok, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but we’re that confident that you’ll come back to us that we’re willing to put our necks on the line. All we do (free lunch-wise) is put our Oomph logo on the front of your cards so when you show your colleagues, friends, family, neighbours, they can see they were made by Oomph!
Can I have any extras in my ‘Try Before You Buy’ pack?
Unfortunately not. But you can include a dummy number or magnetic stripe as part of your design, no problem.
How can I pay for my cards?
With plastic of course! We accept all major cards (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Solo, Visa Electron and Visa Delta) but unfortunately we don't accept American Express or Diners Club at the moment. Just call us with your card details and we can take a payment there and then. We also accept payment by BACS or by cheque, but we can't start work on your job until the funds have cleared in our account. Sending a screen-grab of the online payment page will grease Oomph’s wheels!
Do you charge a handling fee for card payments?
No. Our bank charges us but we don’t pass it on (aren’t we nice).
Do you accept cash?
No. We prefer plastic, naturally.
Can I open a trade account?
Not on your first order. If you want to open a 30-day account please talk to our customer service team who’ll take your registered company details. Please note, your details will be passed to HSBC who will perform various financial checks to verify suitability.
How do I know my card details are secure?
We take the security of our customers very seriously. We adhere to the most stringent levels of fraud screening, and make sure that our customer's details are secure throughout the transaction process. Also, we don't store any customer's card details.
Do you keep my details?
We do keep some of your details like your name, address and order history; but we don’t store your payment details.
Will you share my contact details with third parties?
No chance!
My business is VAT registered in the Republic of Ireland, how do I ensure I’m not charged VAT?
If in the Republic of Ireland or anywhere else in the EU you’ll be asked if you have an EU VAT number. We’ll then check with HMRC and zero VAT your purchase if everything is valid.
How are my Oomph cards packed?
We’re super-scrupulous when it comes to detail and work hard to ensure your cards arrive without a scratch. The same goes for our packaging. We believe it’s all in the detail. Small things, like how your perfectly printed Oomph cards are packed is important to us. And boy our card trays are tough. They’re matte laminated, so that you don’t get box dust all over your lovely cards. They’re touchable too (and don’t give you nasty paper cuts). They also have a secure lid that doesn’t fall off exposing your cards to dust and dirt. Your cards will also be shrink-wrapped, to keep them as fresh as when they were packed.
Does any of your packaging carry the Oomph logo?
Yes. Our trays have an Oomph stamp on them, whereas the outer boxes will be plain. If you’d like the trays just plain white then please speak to a member of our customer service team who’ll be happy to arrange this for you.
Can I have my own brand on the packaging?
Not at the moment, although we’re working on offering this service in the future.
How do I order?
How do I ensure my design files are ready for print?
This is the killer bit and the part that will really add Oomph if done properly. Please look at our guide to ensure your artwork meets our criteria. You’ll also find a handy checklist to help ensure everything is ready to go. Alternatively, take a look in our design gallery; we can customise your design to ensure you’ve got a card with maximum Oomph.
What happens after I’ve paid, do I get a proof to approve before you go and print my cards?
-
Once you’ve paid for your order and sent your print ready artwork a 100% Oomph customer service advisor will call you to run through your order. Once all’s clear we’ll send through an online PDF proof for you to approve, then it’s just down to you to ensure everything is as it should be, and the right way up!
Please note, orders and artwork submitted before 12pm will receive a proof the same day – guaranteed. After this time your proof will be sent the next working day.
How long after I approved will I get my cards?
This all depends on the service level you’ve selected and when you approved your proof. If ordered before 12pm and approved before 3pm on the same day, this will be counted as Day 1. If you order after 12pm a proof will be sent on the next working day. If this is the case and you approve before 3pm then that will again be classed as Day 1.
How do I customise a design from your gallery?
You can’t customise your card online due to the large number of Oomph extras available – offering this facility online would be pretty confusing for everybody.
I want my own stuff on the back of the card but there’s something already on there I don’t want, how can I remove this?
Don’t worry, this is just Oomph copy to show you what can be done. We customise the cards for you once you’ve paid. We’ll call you to see what you want on the back. This can include your logo, contact details or anything else to give your cards the added punch you need.
Can I change the colour of the design on the front of the card?
No we can’t sorry. Our designs have been toiled over to make a difference to your cards plus the additional time involved would mean we have to charge more for the designs. To keep the prices low the amount of customisation is kept to a minimum.
How long does it take to customise the card?
When we receive your order and talk everything through we’ll aim to have the design back to you within 3 working days. The main thing is to ensure you are contactable if we need to speak to you otherwise your order will be delayed.
How many changes can I make?
Once we take your initial brief we’ll send through a proof for approval. You can make one change to this initial proof. Anything extra will be charged at £25. This is to cover the cost of making the proof and sending a new proof for approval.
How much do Oomph designs cost?
We charge £49, this covers the time it takes to customise your cards. We’ll be introducing new designs all the time from guest designers that will range in price so watch this space as there’s lots of cool stuff coming.
Can I be an Oomph guest designer?
Yes. There are lots of benefits to being an Oomph designer. Please visit our great ideas page for more details and to contact us, or email beourguest@madebyoomph.co.uk with any questions.
How do I ensure my design files are ready for print?

You’ll also find a handy checklist to help ensure everything is ready to go. Alternatively, take a look in our design gallery, we can customise the design too.
Can you design a card for me?
Sorry we’re not a design agency. The best thing to do is take a look at our design gallery, pick one, checkout with your ideal card and we can then customise it for you, see 'Using Oomph designs' FAQs for more info.
Do you have a template for a plastic card?
Yes we do, you can download it here. Please also take a look at our guide as we also show dimensions for magnetic stripes and other handy information that you’ll need when setting up your artwork ready for print.
What size is a plastic card made by Oomph!?
The same size as your bank card: 85.60 x 53.98mm (we round it to 86 x 54mm to make it easier). At 0.76mm, it’s the same thickness too and has the same 3.18mm rounded corners.
I see you’re set up for CMYK print, can I use Pantone colours in my design?
Yes you can but we would ask you to contact us for a price. Any Pantone colours will be converted to CMYK which will vary the colour. To order online your artwork must be set as CMYK four colour process. Any additional elements such as metallic or spot gloss must be shown as a separate print layer.
What happens after I’ve paid, do I get a proof to approve before you go and print my cards?
-
Once you’ve paid for your order and sent your print ready artwork a 100% Oomph customer service advisor will call you to run through your order. If you order after 12pm a proof will be sent on the next working day. If this is the case and you approve before 3pm then that will again be classed as Day 1.
Oomph card extras
Can I have more than one panel?
Yes. You can have seven if you want at no extra charge as long as they’re on the same side.
What shape or size do you offer?
Any, tell us what you want and we can do it.
There don't seem to be any colours available?
Our standard stripe colour is black or brown, if you'd like silver or gold then please just get in touch
What information do you need to encode the magnetic stripe?
We need to know the track to encode (1, 2 or 3) and you'll need to supply the data.
What is better hico or loco?
We recommend you go hico; it's what we use for VISA cards. Data is more secure and can't be wiped as easily as a loco magstripe.
What do you need for encoding?
Data, pure and simple. Most use a sequential number that's used to track the customer's purchase behaviour. Each time the card is swiped you know which customer swiped it and when. Perfect for access control cards or loyalty cards.
Can magnetic stripes lose their encoding?
Yes they can and do. The most common problem is your faithful mobile phone. Any strong magnetic field like this can disrupt the magnetic particles and render it useless. Oomph recommends a hico magnetic stripe, it's what the banks use.
What is a magnetic stripe made from?
Tiny magnetic particles in a resin, applied directly or made into a strip on a plastic backing which is applied to the card (well you did ask).
What's a barcode font?
There are tons of fonts in print; it's the same for barcodes. Certain barcode scanners will only scan certain fonts, so you need to make sure you have the right one.
Can I have a different barcode on each card?
Absolutely, we encourage it, especially if you want to track your customers.
What card finish do you recommend for a barcode?
Matte finish is the best - it cuts down on glare, especially when using a smart phone to read a 2D barcode. For reliability, Oomph also recommends the code sits on a white background.
The colour rubs off, is this normal?
Yes. The colour is a foil ribbon (like an old typewriter ribbon) applied via a hot stamp. As this detail is raised off the card it takes a bit of hammering! For a longer term solution choose flat numbering.
Can I have embossing anywhere?
Unfortunately not. The bottom half of the card is the only area we can emboss and we can't go closer than 5mm to the edge.
What size of embossing can I have?
You can have it large (like the long number on your bank card) or small (like the name and expiry date), or why not have both? Just remember, embossing leaves a small indent on the underside so make sure you don't print any key information there.
Can I have a bigger hole?
No can do, sorry, the standard radius is 5mm.
How far from the edge does a hole or slot have to be?
We recommend a minimum distance of 5mm from the edge. We will not go any closer as the card's durability will be compromised and we can't have that at Oomph.
Will the hole bits still be left in the cards?
No way, José. We pop them out and they're all recycled to live another day. If we didn't, can you imagine the mess when you opened the box? Not very Oomph.
What if I want two numbers?
You can have as many numbers as you like, at no extra charge (so long as they're on the same side).
Which number font is the most popular?
Most people prefer Helvetica or Arial. They're clear and suit the purpose well. If you've got a specific font in mind, let us know - we may have it in our Oomph font library.
Will the number rub off over time?
Yes, the number will rub off eventually - this is inevitable. But when we say eventually, we mean several years, it really depends on how the card's treated.
I want my numbered cards in sequence but won't the number be covered?
Yes, but we'll put a tiny little number on your card so that we know the order. We'll check with you first to find out where you want it to go.
Where can I have the scratch panel?
Anywhere on the card as long as it's not closer than 5mm to the edge. Obviously, you'll want the number or code to be in the same spot.
What size scratch panel can I have?
You can pretty much have any size you want.
